Dinner in New York

Dow falls 504 as Wall St. woes batter stocks

Chris flew to New York today anticipating the first of 3 consecutive work weeks (home on the weekends, of course). About the time he arrived he received a call from an associate at work requesting that he return to SLC as soon as possible to help with the fallout of Lehman's bankruptcy filing. SO, looks like he'll catch a flight in the am tomorrow....since he'd just been on a plane for 5 hours. No one in their right mind would turn around and hop on another one. Plus, now he gets to have a nice dinner in New York!
The good news is, he'll be in town indefinitely while everything is worked out at Lehman Bros. The bad news is, our economy is crashing, and burning.
See the link below if you want to catch up a bit. I find myself gravitating toward these articles so I can understand the financialese that Chris speaks after work.

  1. It's too depressing to read these articles - the Dow hasn't been this low since 2002. I try to read them every once in a while so I'm educated, but not often enough that it's always on my mind.

Bummer about back-to-back flights. At least he earned the FF miles!

  2. Yep, watching and waiting, helpless at home, my eyes glance at the Churchill quote in the corner of your blog.... the financial pundits say that we have to force the economy into real recession to fix it. I don't know who to believe, and wonder if our money is safe in the bank.. At least we don't have gazillions in investments to lose -- yet. Optimism -- at least we now have a job to help us keep up with skyrocketing prices on every commodity we can imagine and that we didn't buy a home we couldn't afford.... thankful for that! And on your end, at least you'll get to have your hubby home this month!

  3. I'm just glad we're not planning on retiring in the next 10 years. Maybe our 401ks will have time to recover?? I agree that the recession needs to happen ....seems everyone keeps trying to put it off and I think it's going to end up as an even sharper correction. Let's just get through it already. JMHO

  4. Yep - let the cycle move itself through and maybe some hard lessons will be learned that will benefit everyone in the next cycle. Sharper correction is exactly what's happening! You must be related to someone in the industry, using lingo like that!

  5. Nat, I'm back to blogging. I've just been super busy getting ready for baby #2. I feel like if we don't get projects done now then we never will. :) Anyway we are getting him in a week so maybe we can get together after that. I'm sure I'll need some adult time. P.S. I put some Christine wedding pics on my blog. You are in one of them. :)
