Miss Independent

She is officially two. Everything is "I DO IT", "ME DO", "MINE". And for the most part, I humor her. There is something to be said for willfulness and wanting to experiment with what you can do. I draw the line at letting her remove her own diaper...that's not a skill I want her to acquire! She's pretty adept at taking her clothes, jacket, and shoes off. She can even do up (but not undo, thankfully) her seat belt, most of the time. She can unscrew water bottle lids AND nail polish bottles (the latter was NOT fun). I bear it all, because I have had two other two year olds and I know that "this too, shall pass".

I have never experienced this next part however. Last night as we were rocking and watching the evening news, our normal routine, I said, "It's about time to get into bed"...as I always do about 5 minutes before I tuck her in (she responds better with some warning). This time, she climbed off my lap, grabbed her dolly and PUT HERSELF IN BED. Closed the door, pulled the blanket up on herself, and stayed there. I wanted to peek in at her and make sure she actually got tucked in, but I waited 30 minutes to make sure I didn't mess up the "experiment". There she was, head on the pillow, blanket around her shoulders, dolly in arms, asleep. I'm blown away. And hoping this trend continues.

  3. What a little smart missy! I guess if it happens again, you may have a new pattern in your bedtime routines! How easy was that?

  5. And she came REALLY close to doing that the night before (Sunday). That would be a fantastic pattern! I know a few people that would probably give their left pinkt to trade you bedtime routines!

  6. LOL I thought about that K, but it really doesn't count because she was tucked in, and came back out first. But, she did go on her own to bed the final time... Tonight, she crashed after 5 minutes of rocking, so I put her in bed asleep.
