Spare Me

So, for those of you who haven't already heard, I recently joined a Bowling League....(well, I thought I was just subbing and trying it out, but it turns out I'm committed through June, which is turning out fine) I am really enjoying it so far.

The league meets up Wednesday mornings and bowls 3 games. I warned them that sometimes, my kids have bowled better then me. I am a member of the "I suck at bowling, and I'm OK with that" page on Facebook for heaven's sake. And I pretty much do. I bowled 2 games my first week....both 59. Sad, right? I did bowl a 126 game, my best so far....but I'm averaging about 76. So, there is definitely room for improvement. But I'm getting more consistent and I'm excited that next time we bowl as a family I won't be the laughing stock.

There is childcare included for the young 'uns. Sydney did OK the first couple of weeks, but I think she's not liking it....so I let her watch us bowl this week and she was a lot happier.

I'm now wondering, is it worth it to pay $2 a week to rent crappy used shoes, or should I take the plunge and buy some of my own? I hear they have really great deals at a local pro-shop where you can buy your own shoes/ball/bag combo for about $100. Or I could just buy the shoes for around $25-30. Hmmmm. I would totally buy a combo if I KNEW for sure I would be bowling league next year too.....but I'm not positive. It's really fun and I AM getting incrementally better. Maybe I should just take the plunge. Or just get the shoes....? Here are some I like..

I'm confused. Will someone just TELL ME what I should do?

  1. check ebay for a smokin deal on some shoes! Those are totally cute though, and I think they are definitely worth 25 bucks! You'll never have to rent shoes again.

  2. If you buy the whole package, you probably will keep up bowling. It is a fun thing to do with friends and your family-great hobby. Buy the whole package and keep bowling!!!

  3. You'll figure it out. Don't sweat over it yet, you don't have to decide today.

  4. Wow I can't believe you joined a bowling league. That is AWESOME. I bowled this week and barely made it over 30. Pretty freakin sad. But then one time I got two turkeys in a row. Very weird. Well good luck. We do need to hang out. It is impossible to keep my kids healthy this year. We were good for a few weeks but we're back sick again. Well Summer is. Hopefully it will blow over soon and we can get together.

  5. Dude, that's a no brainer on three counts: 1. It's something you're enjoying, 2. it's great exercise, and 3. if you buy the whole deal, you'll feel guilty if you don't go bowling with the girls and have a great time every Wednesday morning! Go for it. Mom said.

  7. If you think about how many more times you'll bowl in your lifetime, then it's totally worth buying the shoes. Everyone should have bowling shoes so they don't have to wear someone else's sweat!

  8. Thanks so much for all your comments. It really helped me mull it over and make a decision. I did buy some shoes. :) Black with little white stars all over that will look SO SWEET when we take our kids to the cosmic bowling the do in the evenings!
I decided I'm not good enough that a good ball will make a difference and I don't bowl technically yet, so I'm going to wait until I know what kind I would need to up my game. PLUS, they have lots of free to use balls at the bowling alley....so I don't really have to buy a ball EVER... SO that's the latest! Can't wait to try 'em out on Wed.
